METH TESTING

Getting a meth test of your home is sadly almost standard in this day and age. The prevalence of meth users and the expertise of the meth cooks mean that meth (known as P or Ice, gear, crank and many other names) is everywhere.

The Global Drug Survey stats from 2017 tell us that 3.1% of New Zealanders have used Meth.  (Source) That's 138,000 meth users in New Zealand.  That is an extrapolated figure from our population stats of 4.6 million, but whilst that is a number of meth users creating meth residue, colloquially, our clients tell us it's a bigger problem than that.

Working with scientific fact and first-hand experience from victims of those whose homes have had meth smokers and Meth cook’s contamination, we know that Methamphetamine residue contamination is a growing problem and is recognised in developed countries as a rapidly growing health issue.

The crime stats tell us that use (of the 138,000 and more guestimate meth users) is on the rise and use means residue and contamination. We wouldn't want to live in a home that was contaminated and neither should you. First hand accounts from those victims living in meth contaminated houses is enough evidence along with the proven science behind methamphetamine crystal residue from cooking and smoking.

Meth tests being conducted across New Zealand are regularly coming up positive. Indicative Meth testing shows us that meth (or rather, the chemicals that are "in" meth) is present on the surfaces we tested.  You simply cannot tell if it is meth users, or meth manufacture just from looking at a wall.

Some companies might tell you that getting meth tested means you have to spend big money. It doesnt have to be. Big money might be the outcome of a poorly handled meth management plan. For landlords, we would propose that you get your house meth tested before you or your tenants move in, during their tenancy if you suspect an illegal behaviour and at the close of their tenancy. That is managing the meth problem so that is does not become 'your' meth problem.

For those purchasing assets, we definitely suggest independently conducted pre-purchase meth checks. If a conflict of interest exists, and you are being told that your new home is safe from meth contamination by someone who stands to make money from the sale, you should ask questions and seek independent advice.
